In addition to the blue ischaemic tongue that's flapping out of the horses' mouth, notice how the horse is having trouble lifting it's right hind leg at 15s due to the rollkür it's subjected to. It also shows it's frustration when kicking at 3.38. I wouldn't call that riding in harmony! The whole point of dressage is to engage the hindquarters and make the horse carry itself and the rider correctly in order to avoid injuries due to the riders weight on its back. Here, the most weight is on its forehand all the time. Great work! (irony). It's a shame how top riders can behave like this!!! And if you follow the source link below, you will see that a person complained about it - but the Steward said: "it was not deemed necessary to comment or take action, because Kittel was no worse than other riders using the same method.". So that means that if a majority are animal tormentors - it's ok for me to act that way too?

I don't understand everybody is reacting so over the top about this movie. The people who filmed this kind of movies en slowmotioned it should search for a life. This is sick to say Patrick is not good for his horse cause if you look right he stopped within 10 seconds after the horse was pulling his tongue over the bit. do you also noticed it as quick as him when your horse is doing the same? No I don't think so.
It's obvious that you can't separate good riding from bad. I don't have to be able to notice a horses tounge sticking out because I NEVER put a horse in that state! Besides that, you only focus on the tongue - don't forget the hyperflexion the horse is subjected to. The horse cannot step further in under it's body with its hind legs - the vision is decreased due to the intense bending, the blood and airsupply gets affected. Do you think it's a harmonic way of riding when the horse kicks at approximately 3 minutes? Do you think it's good riding when the horse barely can lift it's hind feet? Do you think it's good riding having SEVERAL kilos pulling force on the reins? You need to do some serious studying.

What is the problem? The horse's tongue is BLUE. If your own tongue was blue, would you maybe think there was a problem? If your own tongue was blue, would you just shove it back in your mouth and get on with it?
The problem is that there are people out there who think a blue tongue is not a problem. This type of denial borders on insanity. Please.
So he noticed it quickly? Of course he did. The crowd outside of the arena was becoming very uncomfortable observing that dangling, lifeless blue tongue. He noticed the looks on the spectator's faces quickly enough to shove the tongue back into hiding. He did not attend to the horse's needs by any stretch of the imagination. He was only covering up the evidence.
At the very, very, very least...at the very bottom of basic human decency, a blue tongue would signify to a normal person that they should GET DOWN off of the horse for a little while and offer him some rest. Perhaps wipe the horse down a bit, cool him off. This would be showing the bare minimum of human stewardship and responsibility. How can that not be evident?
To continue to act as if nothing was wrong just makes it all more horrifying. A blue tongue is evidence that something is indeed very wrong. Period.
